Lauren
has taken a special interest in a female student
named Kara Glynne (Taryn
Manning) and goes to a local club to hear the
young girl sing an excellent
rap-type song.
While there Lauren gets asked to dance at least twice. A record producer in the crowd that evening
sees Kara's act and expresses interest in signing her. He offers the
teen a 4 month touring gig that could turn into a
record contract. That would mean missing the rest of her senior
year, but to Kara it seems like a good deal. Lauren is happy for her
and encourages her to get an attorney to make sure the deal is a good one,
as well finding an agent who will watch out for her best
interests. Kara's parents learn of Lauren's encouragement to
quit school and ask to meet with Lauren and Harper. While Lauren defends
herself and says that she never encouraged Kara to quit school, she also
states that Kara deserves the chance to pursue a singing career. She
thinks she has the talent to do so...
Danny Dumped
Danny comes home to find his
fiancée Sharon in bed
with another man. Obviously he goes haywire and starts yelling and
screaming. When the man says he wants to make a phone call and just leave
quietly,
Danny rips the phone off the wall and throws it at him, knocking him
out. They call for help and when the police and ambulance arrive they question Danny
who lies about his part in the incident and is taken to jail. The
only person he could think to call is Ronnie Cooke. From her Danny learns that
the injured man is okay but that he's looking at a possible
aggravated assault charge and that he'll have to
go to court. In the morning the rumors fly at school, ranging from
Danny throwing
the man out the window, to his having kidnapped the governor and hijacked
a bus.
Luckily for Danny the man
decides not to press charges. Ronnie comes to the jail to meet him
when he's released and
brings along Sharon, to whom Danny refuses to talk despite Ronnie's
encouragement. Before he is allowed to return to
class he gets the usual lecture from Harper telling him to watch his
step. During class "talk time" student Debbie brings up
the subject of his being in jail. Danny goes off on her when she
refuses to drop the subject and she winds up running out of the classroom
in tears. That night Danny decides to talk with his fiancée Sharon
who admits that she can never achieve her dreams with him, basically
because he is a poorly-paid teacher. When Danny approaches his class
the next day he apologizes to them, especially Debbie and tells them he's
only human. Finally, when he gets home in the evening he finds
Sharon's engagement ring on his lamp stand with a good-bye note.
Scott and Meredith: the story continues
Guber is seen having a cookie at Meredith's house in the
evening. While they are sharing a moment together she asks him to
spend the night. He says he wants to but is nervous. She
grabs his hand and puts it on her breast and tells him to ravage
her. He makes the excuse that it's a school night and leaves.
The next day he speaks of it with Harper, who tells him not to lie but be honest with her and tell her how he really feels.
Scott confesses to Harper that it's been nine years since he's had contact with a woman
and is afraid that things may not work out right.
When Scott meets Meredith in
the hall she gives him the cold shoulder. Later when they have the
opportunity to talk she admits that she's upset he didn't stay. She
felt pushed away. Scott admits to her that he has experienced stage
fright and has discussed this with Steven. She's surprised at this
news but they eventually begin being truthful with each other, both
admitting they are scared. Harvey overhears this and admits that
he's frightened about the two of them engaging in, (well, you know how
coarse Harvey is). Together Meredith and Scott visit their therapist
to work through their fears. By the end of the episode they are looking
over prosthetic hands together and are thinking about making the purchase
as a couple.
She ain't Dr. Ruth
Harper tells the student newspaper editor that the sex
column "Ask Helen" must be removed or he will cease funding the
paper with school monies. The editor refuses and says it would be a
violation of freedom of speech, but Harper advises the young man not to push him on this. Later in
the office Louisa, who has been a proponent of the column all along,
accidentally tips her handbag emptying some of the contents on the
desk. Harper sees some letters fall out addressed to Helen.
When he meets with her in his office she admits to writing the column,
causing Stephen to go ballistic. When he presses her for her reasons
behind doing this she declares that she feels it's important to let kids know about the
issues that they won't ask
about publicly. She also says that a column from a faculty writer
would just be blown off so she used an alias so that no one would know it
was her. Stephen tells her to go back to her regular job while she still has one so he
can think this over. Louisa returns later with Marla for
support. The teacher backs her up stating that everyone else gets a second chance, so why
shouldn't Louisa?
